Los Angeles International Airport, also known as LAX, is the airport that is serving the Los Angeles area, linking the city with numerous other major destinations.

The airport is ranked 6th in the world for the number of passengers.

The central complex consists in 9 terminals, linked by a U-shaped roadway, with 2 levels, containing restaurants, gift shops, restrooms, cocktail lounges, as well as public telephones and business centers, offering travelers convenient services.

Ground Airport Transportation

LAX Shuttles

There are free shuttle services available, frequently, between terminals (every 12 to 15 minutes, 24h/day). The LAX Shuttle & Airline Connections blue sign (where passengers can find the LAX Shuttle service) can be found on the lower level, in front of each terminal.

Rental Cars

Around 40 car rental companies are offering their services, passengers being able to contact them using the Ground Transportation Telephone Boards, near the baggage claim area.

Taxis

Taxi services are located on the lower level, in front of each terminal.

Buses

The public bus transportation service from LAX are provided by Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, Culver City Bus Lines and Torrance Transit, which can be located at the Metro Bus Center, in Lot C.

Getting around in Los Angeles

By Car

The Los Angeles roads are very well maintained and a car seems to be a must-have in this city. What you really must have is patience! The traffic can get very stressful in some days. A practical advice would be to get a map of the city and study the shortcuts (or "long cuts") during rush hour if you don't want to spend a good few hours on the highway.

By Public Transportation

The public transportation service does not seem to be LA's strong asset, because of the traffic, although there are a few good spots: to get in the downtown area, the best option is to take the MTA Metro and to get around the beach towns people often use Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus.

By Taxi, By Bike or Walking

Taking a cab is not the cheapest way to find your way around LA, because the tourist attractions and popular destinations are spread across the city.

Walking or riding the bike, are 2 great options to get around the city, but only for sightseeing or relaxation purposes. Los Angeles is a big city and despite the fact that the traffic is infernal sometimes, the need of a 4-wheel vehicle is essential here if you want to get across the other part of the city `fast`.
